We celebrate all the people who have spoken God's extravagant welcome
28 Dec 2004
Response from the United Church of Christ Coalition
December 3, 2004

The United Church of Christ Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns stands in solidarity with Beth, her courageous congregation and all United Methodists who find this verdict appalling. We lift up our prayers in lament that the Church still cannot make room for the abundant gifts of such a woman of faith. It is a sign of our brokenness and sin that one so talented and integrity-filled would be stripped of her credentials. And we pray for the day when ALL God's children who are called to ministry will find a Church that celebrates them.

In the meantime, we give thanks for Beth's courage, honesty, integrity and witness. We celebrate her home congregation and all the people who have spoken God's extravagant welcome in the midst of bigotry and ignorance. In this Advent season, it is a sign of the Incarnation in our midst.
